Calling all volunteers!
About the Book Merimbula, kicks off on Saturday 11 March and we’re expecting big crowds! However we’re a bit short of volunteers at each of the venues: St Clements Anglican Church, Merimbula RSL, the Scout Hall and the Old School Museum. Can you help? We only need an hour or so of your time so you will have most of the day to enjoy the festival events. If you can help please contact Olwen on 0419 209 027 or email email@example.com
Our program is coming together and we are confident you’ll enjoy a full day and evening of fascinating presentations, conversations, demonstrations, exhibitions, and interactions. We’ll be posting our full program online soon. In the meantime, our online ticketing is now open!
Numbers for our event dinner, featuring Jane Caro, are limited. Book early to avoid missing out!
*For those who prefer not to buy online, a small number of tickets have been reserved for purchase directly from the RSL club.
|Also, don’t miss Rhonda Ayliffe’s intriguing and beautiful book binding demonstration. Read more about Rhonda’s creative take on books, book making and history on her blog.
Happy New Year, book lovers! The organising committee of About the Book Merimbula is hard at work on the event program and it is shaping us to be a great day. We’ll have a preliminary program up on this site soon, as well as online ticketing, which we hope to launch toward the end of this month. Stay tuned.
The Old School Museum in Merimbula wants your autograph! In years gone by autograph books were very popular. Many were illustrated with sketches or cartoons, poems and thoughts of wisdom. They were hand-written memories of people and occasions, treasured and shared with family and friends, generations before the invention of the internet and social media like Facebook.
“I remember my mother’s, which was leather bound and contained names of various friends and relation, as well as fine sketches. It was in a fragile state when I was a child and unfortunately must have been tossed out, but I am hoping that others have been more careful and still have family autograph books. (OM)”
Perhaps your parents or grandparents have one, tucked away in a forgotten drawer. As part of About the Book Merimbula, the Old School Museum will be curating a display of autograph books, and they are asking for anyone who may have one or more of these iconic treasures to lend them to the exhibition. If you have an autograph book or know anyone else who might have one and you are willing to lend them to the Old School Museum for this exhibition please fill in the form on our contact page.
Did you miss the launch of About the Book Merimbula on Saturday, 12 March? Our special guest was Ramona Koval, who will be known to many from her former role as presenter or ABC Radio National’s book show for many years. Ramona kept us all enthralled with readings from her latest book, Bloodhound: searching for my father, and insights into her writing process.
Now, we are focusing on planning About the Book, which is scheduled for 11 March, 2017. Keep checking this page for further updates as we move along with organising the festival.
